Success Stories
Beth and Dotcom

Dotcom pushes door button for BethA year ago in 2004, on her way to work, Beth began to feel "very strange" and disoriented. Within 24 hours she found herself unable to walk, talk, eat, or do anything for herself.

After extensive tests and much research they found she had breast cancer. Her autonomic system had tried to fight off the cancer and attacked her body. The nerves in the lower half of her brain were destroyed, leaving her permanently disabled. She is cancer free now, but still cannot function.

Beth and Dotcom shoppingDotcom, usually called Dottie, was trained to assist Beth in her daily living. She is able to bring Beth things, pick up dropped items, get the phone, open and close doors, and retrieve drinks from the refrigerator.

Dottie also can pull Beth's manual wheelchair and push automatic door buttons. Since Beth has difficulty in communicating, Dottie helps the loneliness Beth feels by giving and receiving love.
